Nubes caseras / Home made Marshmallows

¡Disfrutad! :)

I've been long looking to make home made marshmallows (or any other candy). As tomorrow is S. Valentines day, and Internet is full of pink and red, and treats I thought it was now or never so I tried this marshmallow recipe that had basic ingredients.  To all of you that are really into this stuff, you can try making hearts for the occasion. In my case I rather dedicate it to C, that's his birthday and is a candy fan.

INGREDIENTS
  • 42g of fruit Jello/Jelly - I used strawberry, but you can pick your favorite flavor
  • 10g of powdered gelatine
  • 100ml water
  • 150g sugar
  • Powdered sugar
Place the water in a saucepan and, once it boils, add the gelatine and sugar. Stir for some minutes until it's well mixed and then add the jello. Let it boil, for 5 minutes until it thickens (never stop stirring). Take out of the heat and let it cool a bit.
With the help of an electric whisk (I believe that you will certainly need one, albeit maybe it can be hand whisked if you give it your best effort), whisk until it makes peaks. You will observe the liquid turns into a dense, chewy and sticky foam. Once it turns like this it'll be ready.
Place it in a pipping bag (or a sandwich bag and then cut a side to use it as one). Sprinkle a thick layer of powdered sugar over a tray covered with parchment or plastic wrap and star making shapes with the bag. Let some space between them because they will spread.
You can also pick a high container, cover it with parchment or plastic wrap, spread a good layer of powdered sugar and place all the mix there. Once it cools you will have to cut it and cover each piece in powdered sugar.
Sprinkle powdered sugar over them and let it dry for, at least, 12h.
Enjoy! :)
